Ever wondered what it’s like to be a designer? No worries, we’ve got it covered. Our very own Marketing Art Director, Edward Lum (Innity Malaysia) will show you what it’s like to be in a day in the life of a designer in Innity.

What does a day in your life look like? Tell us!

9.00 a.m : Already in the office… JUST KIDDING. Breakfast and some family time.  Would reach office bout 10am. Then the same routine, check email, reply email, follow-up things to do.

12.00 p.m : If there is urgent campaigns, which is basically most of the time, I’ll keep a tab on the work from the creative team to make sure all campaigns are proceeding smoothly.

2.00 p.m : See if there is other support needed to be given to the rest of the team and closely communicate with the operations and sales on campaign status. Lunch is only when hungry or when urgent matters are settled.

4.00 p.m : If it’s a Tuesday, I’ll try to have a team meeting to discuss work in progress as well as to share ideas and problems. The rest of the time, I’ll be supporting campaigns in terms of ideas and designs.

6.00 p.m : Still thinking and working on whatever that is pending…

After Work Hours: What is work hours, anyway? I still work after 6pm. Most of the time, I’ll be the last to leave the office. Go home. Family time (If everyone is still awake). Eat. Sleep.

What are your specific responsibilities at Innity?
My specific responsibility is to solve problems.. Wait.. that ain’t specific enough… Anyway let’s not get into details.

Describe your job in one word. Okay, maybe two.
I give you three: WORLD’S BEST JOB!… (Boss.. you know what to do lar… wink* wink*)

Name 3-5 job skills that are needed for your job.
PASSION.. wait that is not a skill, but I’m driven by passion to learn skills needed. My skills would be Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Firework, Actionscript, Javascript, HTML, Powerpoint, Words, Excel….Translation for the layman (Google should have this): software skills, technical skills, communication skills, marketing skills.

Are many evenings or weekends required for your job?
It depends. Most designers are required to work evenings and weekends. Why? Because we are the last one to deliver the final output of any marketing campaigns. But for me, working on weekends are only required when absolutely necessary and luckily it doesn’t happen that often.

Best thing you like about working in Innity?
Innity is always an evolving and growing company. To grow, you will need to learn. And Innity provides me the opportunity to grow and learn especially in these exponential times.

What personal qualities do you think is necessary for someone to be successful in this occupation? PASSION… did i mention passion again? I believe to succeed in not just this occupation but ANY occupation, you need to have PASSION together with a GOOD ATTITUDE (positive, willing to learn, willing to admit failure). With these, anyone can be successful.

Thank you for your time. :)
You are welcome.
