The Bohol Chronicle is Innity’s Featured Publisher of the Month (August)

Celebrating their 65th anniversary this year, we had a little chat with one of our long-time publishers, The Bohol Chronicle. Let’s dive into how they started their website, the readers they are able to attract, and insightful tips for those venturing into creating their own online community and website.

1) Can you tell us a little about The Bohol Chronicle and how it got started?

Founded in 1954, The Bohol Chronicle is one of the longest running community newspapers in the Philippines. It is multi-awarded by national institutions such as the Philippine Press Institute.

It’s online operations started in 2016 with the goal of reaching Boholanos throughout the country and across the globe. The online arm of the paper has exponentially grown its traffic since its inception.

2) Who are your targeted audience/readers?

Our readers are the thousands of Boholanos outside the island of Bohol. Before its tourism boom, the province was once one of the top 20 poorest provinces in the country.

Hence, thousands of Boholanos had been relocating in central business districts and metropolitan areas such as Metro Manila in the north, Metro Cebu in the Visayas and Metro Davao in Mindanao, giving us readers from the three major islands.

Outside of Bohol, we have a large number of readers in the following cities: Cebu, Quezon, Makati, Manila, Davao, IloIlo, Dumaguete, Bacolod and Bacoor.

3) What insightful tips can you share for new and aspiring publishers/bloggers?

Find a niche.

For us, for instance, we always highlight our news that these are from Bohol and about Bohol. Boholanos, even when already working or living in urban centers or even abroad, are still well connected with their roots and are heavily interested in the happenings in their home.

Those abroad, for instance, still read the Inquirer, Rappler, etc to see how things are going in the Philippines. For Boholanos in Manila, the US, etc, they read The Bohol Chronicle to keep abreast with the developments in their home.

4) What role does Innity play in your business growth and what do you like about working with Innity so far?

Innity has been our most consistent and constant local partner since we started our online operations way back in 2016. A fact we are highly appreciative of.
